Dr. Nga Tran
Availability: Mondays & Fridays 8:30am – 4:30 pm, Tuesdays 8:30am-12:30pm
Specialities: Pregnant and post-partum women, schizophrenia, bipolar, trauma, substance misuse, depression and anxiety, medication issues, complex presentations. Dr Nga Tran obtained her medical degree from the University of Queensland in 1997, and specialist qualifications from the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists in 2007. Her training experience in mental health has included adults, children and adolescents, geriatric, indigenous, and culturally and linguistically diverse populations.

Over the past five years she has been practising as a consultant psychiatrist for Metro South community mental health service. Her main role is as a clinician in the assessment and treatment of individuals with mental distress, but her experience also encompasses working with families and carers, with allied health professionals such as psychologists, social workers, occupational therapists and nurses, and liaison with general practitioners and medical specialists. She has an understanding of working in teams and organisations. She is actively engaged in ongoing professional development, and values evidence based medicine and ongoing research. In addition, Dr Nga Tran is involved in the teaching and examination of psychiatry trainees and has a role as Chief Training Supervisor at the Princess Alexandra Hospital. She is a consultant for the Queensland Transcultural Centre. She has also consulted for Mindfulness Training Australia. Dr Tran has been undertaking extensive training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Contextual Behavioural Psychology through the attendance of workshops, seminars and conferences, and via active participation in ACT interest groups. She is passionate about using this framework as a basis for the treatment of those experiencing overwhelming mental distress to lead a rich, full and meaningful life.
