At Brisbane ACT Centre, we understand that the journey to safely tapering off antidepressants can seem complex and challenging – thankfully help is at hand! Below are evidence-based resources (accepted by the RACGP as a clinical resource) developed by the University of Queensland's Department of General Practice through the RELEASE program (REdressing Long-tErm Antidepressant uSE). These resources provide guidance, education, and practical support to assist you through the tapering process, including a range of tapering plans for different medications ranging from ‘faster’ to ‘slower’ to ‘even slower’.
Online Portal for Tapering Support
This interactive portal provides structured support and personalized guidance for individuals who wish to safely reduce or discontinue their antidepressant medication. You will find structured tapering plans for almost all commonly prescribed antidepressants, key resources for individuals, family and friends, with new materials added frequently. Also documentaries, webinars, instructional videos and more!
Explore comprehensive information about the RELEASE program, including its aims, methodologies, and how it supports safe antidepressant withdrawal in general practice.
For further support, we encourage you to contact our therapists at Brisbane ACT Centre, who are experienced in providing guidance and psychological strategies during medication tapering. Antidepressant withdrawal is more than just chemistry, as we feel our emotions more, both pleasant and difficult, carefully developed psychological flexibility skills enable us to handle them effectively, and grow our lives in purposeful directions – take back the life you want!
